The web arguable would be several years behind where it is now in terms of technologies if thej adult industryu had not pushed the limites of display, rendering, streaming etc.
I dont condone it, but welcome readers to think about why it is that it is this sort of industry that has driven adoption of technologies in mainstream, rather than the other way around. Its sad, but true.
Personally I think it is because the key consumers of online porn are people who want privacy therefore anything that maximises the speed of delivery, and privacy, will be in great demand. And from some people I know, there were a lot of socially challenged people frm the tech community who, in the early days, got their kicks out of being able to have access to porn, especially the teenagers.
Its sad commentary on society that we almost "need" this. Lets all work to change our society so there are more constructive and beneficial ways for people to use their talents and energies.

Unfoitunately the adult industry has been the first-mover in terms of most of the online technologies for graphics and videos.
