Gary Shapiro from the Consumer Electronics Association on the RIAA and NAB’s wish that the Federal Government force Apple and other companies to include FM receivers in their products:
Rather than adapt to the digital marketplace, NAB and RIAA act like buggy-whip industries that refuse to innovate and seek to impose penalties on those that do.
I don’t think forcing a legacy technology into digital media products is going to save radio. Radio, as it was known for the past 70 years, is dead. Companies like Pandora and Rdio are the new broadcasting format.
And will the RIAA and NAB pay for the chips and offset the design costs?
Doubtful.
Radio, RIAA: mandatory FM radio in cell phones is the future – Ars Technica via Apple Insider
Lots of iPhone 3G owners, including me, have had serious issues with iOS 4. It’s slow as molasses, apps crash, and you don’t get the goodies that come with the latest version like multitasking. Mac|Life and other outlets have posted steps on how to downgrade your 3G to the previous version.
If I didn’t have an iPhone 4 already, I would have downgraded. If you don’t have the skills or confidence to downgrade yourself, there are videos out there that explain how to make the device run (a little bit) faster. Hint: disable Spotlight searches.
From the Business Insider interview of former Apple employee Chad Little:
The best way to get any cross departmental work done was to say its for Steve and you’d probably have it the same day.
So tomorrow, I’m going to ask for an iPhone 4 and just say “It’s for Steve” to see how fast I can get it.
Working At Apple – Business Insider
John Gruber has done an amazing job reviewing the iPhone 4. I don’t think I’ve actually seen a more detailed writeup yet. Its a lengthy but worthy read where goes through the screen, processor, and font choice. He also discusses the two common complaints about the phone and how Apple might address them.
4 – Daring Fireball

In the continuing tradition of mocking up conversations between Apple CEO Steve Jobs and former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates comes this jab at the iPhone 4. You can see a bunch more here.
