Head Best

by Christopher Paul on February 28, 2006

I was given great news today. I was asked to be head of the group of best men for my friend’s wedding. I don’t know how that’s different from being the best man except that there is more than one best man. Never having been a best man (or best at anything, for that matter), I’m a little lost and don’t know what I should be doing. I know from my wedding that my best man said that one of them is to get the groom to the church on time – and in good condition. Aside from that, I don’t know what else I can do.

I suppose there is the bachelor party but I don’t know if I’m the right guy to be doing that. I never had a bachelor party – didn’t want one, either, so I have no inspiration to go by when planning. Most of the guys I hang with aren’t the “bachelor party types” and don’t visit strip clubs or anything like that. Occasionally, there is some Government Funded Research but that’s about it. They don’t really go out to bars either and when they do go out they never get crunked anymore than the average muthafuckin biotch.

…Anyway

So, I have to come up with something to do for his party. I also have to figure out what else I have to do for his wedding. I don’t know if I need to pick up things for the ceremony or do errands for him or what. I suppose I’ll also have to make a speech. And I SUCK at those.

I am not a good public speaker… In fact, I can’t hardly speak to people one on one without looking like an ass. But luckily, I know some good things to say about the guy and his bride-to-be and I’m hoping they – and the 18 year old Macallan – will make it very easy for me to get up in front of all those people.

Although I’m not the best speaker and might not be the best at planning the bachelor party, I’m glad I was asked to be one of the best men. I know the other best men and I know that it is truly an honor to be amongst them representing (representn’, as we say at my crib) my friend.

I’ll be sure to do my best.
