New Features

by Christopher Paul on June 23, 2008

I’ve been neglecting the blog of late. I’ve been swept up in the micro-blogging scene and really getting into Twitter, Plurk, and a few others. It’s come to the need to use mass-micro-bloggers Ping.fm and HelloTxt to keep my statuses (statusi?) up-to-date. But you might have noticed that I’ve added a Twitter sidebar on the right to keep up with the Tweets I send out. I’ve installed a Twitter client on my Mac and Blackberry to see if I can use the service for more than tracking packages and getting the latest WWDC news; because the feed is automatically grabbed via a plugin, I don’t have to do anything.

And that got me thinking I could add all my other social feeds to the site and extend my micro-blogging to the traditional blog. No, I’m not turning this into a Tumble Blog, I’m just taking the idea of Tumblr and incorporating some of my RSS feeds that Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, and others provide. In fact, the first of which I’ve already incorporated is Flickr.

You’ve always been able to see my latest Flickr pics on the sidebar. Now, I’ve used a feed reading plugin to auto-post my Flickr uploads. I’ll have to do some tweaking because my Flickr posts also get sent to my Facebook profile via their own importing feature. Same with del.icio.us. If I configured things correctly, del.icio.us will create a new post every day at 0:00 GMT on all the links I bookmarked through the site.

Somehow – probably through another plugin – I’ll be able to import Google Shared Links and articles submitted or dug on Digg.

At least it will yield more posts. I’ve been really bad about posting new material even though I’ve got lots of drafts and even more ideas in my head for articles. Maybe I need a few days off from work to be able to dedicate some time to it…

or I should just post while at the gym where all my ideas seem to come to mind.
