What’s Better: More Total Medals or More Gold Medals?

by Christopher Paul on August 15, 2008

If you look at today’s standings, China is ahead of everyone else… assuming you believe that only gold medals count for the test of Olympic superiority. And if you visit the official website (http://ping.fm/Puqe8), you see they are listed first.

But if you follow NBC in the US, you’ll see they rank each country by the total number of medals one regardless of color. By that standard, the US is ahead. You can see their website here: http://ping.fm/xc768

So what is it? Is it better to have more medals of lesser standing or more gold medals but not more medals overall?

Interesting…I love “approach to life” questions like this. I think less is more. I find more self gratification in a job extremely well done, than in quick fix, half-way attempts. Less is more. Less means more. 😉 C.
