Damned If You Do

by Christopher Paul on August 12, 2010

On my way home, I witnessed an elder man yell and curse at the ferry hands and captain because one of the crew members tried to assist him as he boarded. The man is more or less able except for the strong limp and the use of a cane but he didn’t want to be touched. He didn’t want anybody’s “hands on him.”

The crew meant well and were doing what they were told or (gasp!) doing something kind and generous. But the man practically spit in their face. The captain tried to explain to the man that they were only trying to help but the passenger wouldn’t have any of it.

If the man had fallen because the crew didn’t help him, you can bet he would have sued them.
