Learning Something New Everyday

by Christopher Paul on January 6, 2011

Giles Turnbull decided to learn something new every day of 2010 and published the things he discovered at The Morning News. Some of the interesting things I learned from him were:

September 1. Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) is a protein produced by white blood cells; it is capable of destroying cancer cells.

October 20. The circumference of the top rim of a standard British pint glass is longer than the glass is tall.

January 14. Carbon monoxide kills you by getting into your bloodstream and occupying the space inside red blood cells that would normally be filled with oxygen.

June 16. If an atom’s nucleus were the size of a pea, the entire atom—including orbiting electrons—would be the size of a football stadium.
