If Copyright Hadn’t Changed in 1978

by Christopher Paul on January 7, 2011

Copyright law was changed in 1978 making it more difficult for older works of art to enter the public domain. The Center for the Public Domain created a small list of books that would have been public domain by now had the law not been changed.

Some great pieces of literature are there including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Horton Hears a Who, and I Am Legend (not the movie). Some movies that would have been public domain include On The Waterfront, 20000 Leagues Under The Sea (the Disney version), and Creature From the Black Lagoon.

See the more comprehensive list here.
