How To Use The Tweetie Bookmarklet With Twitter For Mac

by Christopher Paul on January 24, 2011

If you’re a Mac or iPhone user, you’ve heard about Tweetie. It’s one of (if not the) best Twitter clients out there. It’s so good, Twitter bought the rights and made it the official app for the two platforms. Tweetie let you install a Safari bookmarklet to easily tweet about the website you’re currently visiting. Officially, it only works with Tweetie and if you try to use it with it installed, it launches that application instead of using the official Twitter for Mac. But by altering the script, you can get it to work with the official version.

Normally, the script looks like this:

javascript:window.location='tweetie:'+window.location

But simply replace ‘tweetie’ with ‘twitter’ and it will launch a new tweet window within Twitter for Mac.

Now, the code should look like this:

javascript:window.location='twitter:'+window.location

If you don’t have the bookmarklet installed and want to use this as an easy way to tweet about a website you like, you can either go here and follow the instructions, or create a new bookmark and have the URL be the code above; name it ‘Post with Twitter’ or whatever you want. Just make sure you’re using the right script.

You can find Twitter for Mac and Twitter for iPhone in the app store.
