EU To Ban Toxic Chemicals In Household Products

by Christopher Paul on February 19, 2011

I wonder how long it will take to get the same kind of ban on harmful chemicals in the US. The chemicals being banned are used in softening plastics, musk fragrances, flame retardants, and a hardener for epoxy resin.

From the Scientific American:

Unless they obtain specific exemptions, companies will not be able to sell items containing phthalates known as DEHP, BBP and DBP, the fragrance Musk Xylene, flame-retardant HBCDD, or the epoxy resin-hardener MDA.

I wonder if the flame retardant is the same one that California requires on baby sleepwear.
