UK Gambling Shares Up, US Down After Crackdown

by Christopher Paul on April 18, 2011

The US government “seized” US gambling sites just before the weekend claiming they were illegal. They’re seeking $3b in civil money laundering fines. UK gambling sites, on the other hand, appear to be benefiting from the action.

Shares of Bwin are up over 30% as of this screen capture but are up 31% as I type (with a 15 minute delay). Other UK gambling sites are also up. Perhaps ironically, MGM, LVS, and WYNN are all down this morning.

The market speaks again.
