Locals vs Tourists

I think this simulated heat map was created from the number of geotagged photos. The red dots are photos of tourists, the blue dots are photos from locals; yellow dots represent photos that could have been taken by either group.

New Yorkers know to avoid certain areas because they are filled with tourists. Now, you can see where they’re going. Needless to say, they’re avoiding places like Times Square and Ellis Island. Locals mostly take pictures around Brooklyn and the East Village. The Brooklyn Bridge seems to be a hotspot for tourists but it looks as if they walk back into Manhattan and stay out of the places hipsters hangout.
