The iPad is The New Laptop

Shawn Blanc explains why he considers the iPad to be his new laptop.

I don’t disagree at all. In fact, on my recent weekend trip to Las Vegas, I only brought my iPad. I didn’t do as much reading or writing as I had hoped but that’s not why I went so it’s understandable. Still, I’m realizing that, over time, I won’t need a laptop for short trips. I’m tempted to leave mine behind when I take a longer vacation later in the year.

But like Shawn, I also think I’ll always have a need for a laptop-as-a-dekstop unless Apple figures out a way to do full computer multi-tasking on iOS. I do like to look at multiple windows on my laptop and I think it could be some time before we see that in an iOS device (if at all).

And I’d bet most people would get more use out of a $500 iPad than they would out of a $500 laptop or desktop from HP.
