Jason Kottke finds yet another great video. This time, it’s of Ayrton Senna demonstrating the heel-and-toe technique. I’ve used this technique myself (just not on a track). I don’t find it very difficult to pull off so I never really gave it much thought. But if you aren’t a driver (or don’t drive a car with a manual transmission) you’d never know about it.

I almost didn’t watch the video. I’m not posting the video to show how a Formula One racer does it. I’m posting this because of something Jason points out:

You’ll note he’s wearing a button-down shirt, dress pants, Italian loafers, and no helmet while burying the speedometer on his way around the track.

That, I find rather cool.
