Twitter’s Apology Shows They Game Themselves

by Christopher Paul on July 31, 2012

Twitter unsuspended Guy Adams’ account and explained what happened.

From Alex Macgillivray, Twitter’s General Counsel:

…we want to apologize for the part of this story that we did mess up. The team working closely with NBC around our Olympics partnership did proactively identify a Tweet that was in violation of the Twitter Rules and encouraged them to file a support ticket with our Trust and Safety team to report the violation, as has now been reported publicly. Our Trust and Safety team did not know that part of the story and acted on the report as they would any other.

So they say one hand doesn’t talk to the other and it resulted in the suspension. That’s possible, I suppose. Twitter is growing and that sports competition thing that happens ever two years is an excting event that will generate tweets and revenue. But the apology doesn’t do much. In fact, it makes it worse.

Yes, they admitted process gaps, but Twitter just admitted that, if they’re working closely with someone, they’ll censor themselves to make them happy. Talk about FAIL. Forget that the Trust and Safety team didn’t know about it. Who cares!?!? Someone else in Twitter told a sponsor how to game themselves to silence critics.

So Twitter has shown itself to be more than stupid for censoring the press, it’s shown that a part of it is willing to abuse itself to make their paychecks fatter.

It’s a cynical view, for sure, but all that good will it earned before was completely tarnished by some sport competitions.

This is great news and I just might consider paying for Hulu Plus again to gain access to this.

Cutting the cord is going to get easier and easier.

Skyfall

by Christopher Paul on July 30, 2012

There is only one movie that I really want to see this year and it’s this one. All the others – Batman, Bourne, I’ll watch and probably enjoy. But this movie I want to see in the theaters.

Apple Celebrating the Holidays in September?

by Christopher Paul on July 30, 2012

MG on the news that announcement and release dates for the new iPhone, iPad Mini, and iPod Nano are coming into focus – and sooner than originally guessed:

“Christmas may be coming a little early this year — even earlier than last year.”

And it's shaping up to be a merry one¹ – for us and, hopefully, Apple.

¹ I couldn't resist the pun.

Photos of Fully Assembled Next Generation iPhone?

by Christopher Paul on July 29, 2012

9to5Mac has a bunch of photos which could be the parts of and a fully assembled version of the next iPhone thought to coming in the next few months. The design looks much like a few leaked parts from earlier rumor posts – including the rumored mini dock connector.

What I never expected (or didn’t notice before from earlier shots) is that the headphone jack appears to be on the bottom left side of the phone. It’s similar to how the iPod Touch is made. I’ve never used an iPod Touch before but I’ve always thought the position of the headphone jack was better than the iPhone. On the iPhone, it causes the cord to get in the way of the screen and it creates a minor nuisance for me as I twist the cable to get it out of sight.

If this is the new iPhone, it looks pretty sharp.
