Metroptimizer is a dead simple way to figure how to round out your MetroCard to a whole fare. It fills a big need that my wife and I have when it comes to traveling in NYC. Even with unlimited or auto-refill cars, we always forget them and end up getting new ones. It’s a big waste of paper/plastic and money. We actually a house project dedicated to figuring out what’s left on the cards, filling them to the nearest whole fare, and recycling the cards; we’ve been doing this for over six months. But Metroptimizer calculates the fare bonus you get for filling up using certain increments.

It’s free, works without a network connection (a must for use in the Subway), and it’s easy to use.

Added to my ‘NYC Travel’ folder.
